Job Details

Job Purpose:

Lecture and develop all areas of broadcast journalism in the diploma and post-diploma offerings in the Media Department, engage in departmental projects and research initiatives through the study and practice of broadcast journalism.

Job Knowledge, Skills and Experience

  • Master's degree in Journalism or Media Related Field
  • At least two years full-time experience as a broadcast journalist
  • A grounded understanding of all elements in the field of news and current affairs broadcasting


Key Performance Areas / Principal Accountabilities

  • Lecture and assess students in broadcast journalism up to B. Tech level
  • Coach and mentor the scripting and production of radio and TV news inserts, magazine programmes and documentary material
  • Teach broadcast history, broadcast policy, film appreciation, textual analysis and visual semiotics
  • Supervise post graduate students
  • Curriculum development and design
  • Administration and committee work
  • Promote community participation and develop partnership with industry
  • Conduct independent research


Competencies

  • Lecturing experience at tertiary institutions
  • Proficient in Adobe Premier and Final Cut Pro and use of ICT's to support teaching and learning
  • Work effectively in a team and manage project work across disciplines with Media
