ELECTRICAL AND ELECTRONIC SERVICES PEROMNES: 11

VACANCY: TECHNICIAN, ELECTRONIC MAINTENANCE POSITION NUMBER: PC00355

Responsibilities:

• First-line repairs and associated administrative work
• Planned preventive maintenance and systems upgrading
• Liaison with clients
• Quality assurance
• Ad hoc services
• After-hours standby service with regard to emergency repairs on campus

Minimum Requirements

  • An NQF level 5 qualification with a pass rate of higher than 60% in electronic subject(s)   

  • A valid driver’s license

  • Three years’ experience in

    • soldering and the use of power tools

    • working with cables and couplings

    • electronic components

    • TCP/IP protocol and its application

  • In rare circumstances the NWU may decide to trade proven and relevant experience for above strict qualification screening

 

Other competency requirements:

  • Excellent troubleshooting ability regarding the following digital and analogue systems:

    • Fire detection, DSTV, alarms, access control, CCTV, booms and gate motors

    • Control & measuring instrumentation and calibration, amplifiers, audio / sound, communications

    • Computer hardware, Linux & Windows operating system and installation/utilisation of applications

  • Training in basic safety standards

  • Interpersonal skills and a positive attitude (communication, team functioning, negotiation, liaison with clients, time management, client service)

  • The ability to work at heights, identify colours and work / make good decisions under pressure of clients and time

  • Demonstration of language proficiency in order to function optimally in the various multilingual environments of the NWU

  • Computer literacy in MS Office (Word and Excel), as well as email and internet

 

Recommendations:

  • A completed trade with certification

  • An NQF level 6 qualification or higher, with Electronics as subject

  • An A+ or N+ qualification

  • Valid certificate to work on heights
