Job Details

Main Purpose: The Head of the Student Enrolment Centre (SEnC) is responsible for the leadership and management of the Student Enrolment Centre.  The incumbent liaises with the Deans of the Faculties, the Dean of Students and the Director of Marketing and Communications, Faculty Registrars and key academic and support service departments within the University to ensure a professional and efficient service to prospective students, applicants and registered students.  The incumbent is responsible for developing policies, procedures and practices that will seek to ensure that quality applicants become registered students.  The incumbent is consequently partially responsible for the maintenance and growth of student numbers at the University and for executing the university’s strategic objectives.

It is a critical role for positioning the University as a top class University and must manage a number of interfaces with internal and external stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Leadership and management of the SEnC;
  • Development of innovative practices in the admissions  and  enrolment environment
  • Furthering  operational efficiencies and student centric  approaches
  • Co-ordination with key areas internal and external to the University;
  • Managing the Human Resources functions through supervisors, in the SEnC;
  • Responsible for the financial management of the unit
  • The incumbent is periodically required to serve on various committees and perform any other tasks assigned by the Registrar.
 

Requirements:

  • Bachelor Degree plus Postgrad qualification
  • Proven 3-5 years’ management experience of a team comprising of 20+ staff
  • 5-8 years’ experience within University administration in the University Admissions/ Registration/ Student Services domain
  • Strong human relationship skills which includes:

-   meaningful insight about cultural diversity

-   conflict resolution

-   team building

-   communication

-   delegation

-   influencing / persuasion / advocacy

-   negotiation

  • Comprehensive understanding of the tertiary education environment.
  • Well-developed  management skills, with strong service ethic
  • High level of computer literacy, significant knowledge of computer systems and technology
  • Planning and organizing  skills including  knowledge of and experience in process improvement
  • Capacity to work independently and meet deadlines within a stressful environment
  • Must be highly motivated and display initiative.      
 

Preferences:

  • High degree of integrity and professionalism, a critical and analytical thinker with problem solving and decision making skills. 
  • Ability to plan and organize.
