Campus Life - Accommodation Services

(UniLodges - Anzac/Beach and 55 Symonds)

The University of Auckland is New Zealand’s leading University.  It employs over 5,400 academic and professional staff to support over 41,000 students, making us one of NZ’s largest employers. Accommodation Services provides a safe and supportive residential study environment for nearly 3,000 students.

Accommodation Services is looking for a Resident Manager for two of our self-catered residences, UniLodge-Anzac/Beach and 55 Symonds. UniLodge- Anzac/Beach is located at the southern end of the city campus and is home to 353 students each year.  55 Symonds is a purpose built student accommodation for 343 students and will open its doors for the first time in February 2017.

Reporting to the Area Manager, the Resident Manager will have responsibility for the pastoral care operations of two self-catered student accommodation residences and for ensuring all building operations are delivered in accordance with the contract by the on-site reception team. The Resident Manager will also have the responsibility of managing a team of 15 Resident Advisors.

We are seeking a capable manager who can lead the development of a community that is safe, comfortable, supportive, conducive to academic success, and responsive to the needs of residential students and summer guests.

The successful candidate will encourage appropriate sociability for a residential community, as well as role model high levels of customer service for staff in their residences. They will be prepared to respond to critical incidents when required. After hours/weekend on-call is area wide and shared with all professional staff in the Symonds Area. They will be warm and open in their personal style but with a level of personal integrity that allows them to maintain consistent and respectful standards of behaviour within a community tolerant of diverse perspectives and needs.

As a pastoral care manager, the successful candidate will be able to deliver a high quality residential experience to a diverse student population, which will range from returning undergraduate students to final year doctoral candidates. As a person with great empathy for diverse groups of individuals, they will be attuned and responsive to the needs of the students in their care. Experience working within a similar environment is desirable and staff management is essential.

This role does not involve living on-site, but the successful candidate will live within a one hour distance from the Auckland CBD.

Candidates will be tertiary qualified in a relevant discipline and, as responsibility for the residents’ health and safety will be a large component of this role, having the ability to obtain a current First Aid Certificate is essential.

This is a great opportunity to join a vibrant and fast-paced work environment, whilst also supporting students to achieve their academic goals.
