Job Details

We are seeking to appoint a talented epidemiologist to undertake longitudinal analyses relating to smoking and smoking cessation, based in the Tobacco and Alcohol Research Group (http://www.bris.ac.uk/expsych/research/brain/targ/), part of the MRC Integrative Epidemiology Unit (http://www.bristol.ac.uk/integrative-epidemiology/) at the University of Bristol and the UK Centre for Tobacco and Alcohol Studies (http://www.ukctas.ac.uk/ukctas/index.aspx).

Research within the Tobacco and Alcohol Research Group focuses on the neurobiological and genetic basis of health-related behaviours, with two themes: the laboratory study of neurobiological pathways involved in health behaviours, and the large-scale longitudinal study of genetic and environmental influences on health behaviours. We use methods such as instrumental variable analysis to elucidate the causal nature of these relationships.

The post holder will work collaboratively with researchers across the IEU, and with external collaborators. The work will primarily utilise data from the clinical practice research database (CPRD) but it is expected that the post holder will have opportunities to develop their own research ideas and use in-house data such as the Avon Longitudinal Study of Parents and Children (ALSPAC, www.bris.ac.uk/alspac) cohort, and external data from initiatives such as the UK Biobank. We are particularly seeking applicants with a commitment to the principles and philosophy of Open Science.

For informal enquires, please contact: Dr Amy Taylor, amy.taylor@bristol.ac.uk
