Auckland Bioengineering Institute

The Auckland Bioengineering Institute is a unique partnership between scientists, engineers, clinicians and the community. Established in 2001, the Institute excels in world-class Bioengineering research carried out by cross-faculty research teams, alongside clinical collaborators in the Auckland region. The Institute is located within the University of Auckland, New Zealand’s largest provider of medical, engineering and biomedical research, and ranked as one of the top 200 universities in the world.

The ABI is best known for its expertise and research contributions in three areas: computational physiology, imaging and instrumentation development and supports basic scientists, engineers and clinicians who work together to undertake a spectrum of medical and biological research. Details of the core research activities and strategic goals of the ABI are available on the website www.abi.auckland.ac.nz/en.html .

The ABI is playing a leading role in an ambitious international modelling initiative which aims to build the virtual physiological human, focused on developing mathematical models that link all aspects of human body from genes to whole organs, into one cohesive framework that will eventually become a resource for diagnosing and treating patients, surgical planning, education and design of medical devices.

The ABI is looking for a software developer who can contribute to software, website and database developments related to the scientific and engineering research activities of the ABI. Skill requirements include familiarity with: Python and Zope/Plone (but experience with other Python frameworks is an advantage); CSS, ideally with experience of the Bootstrap framework; Javascript; and experience with unit testing and version control systems (especially git). The ABI has a range of scientific and engineering research software projects, many of which are open source projects. A further requirement is high level skills in the latest graphics rendering techniques and also in WebGL and web interface development technologies, as the ABI is increasingly using mobile devices as a platform for its delivery of content.

The University has an equity policy and welcomes applications from all qualified persons.

The University is committed to meeting its obligations under the Treaty of Waitangi and achieving equity outcomes for staff and students.

Applications close: 10 December 2016
