Postgraduate Researcher Administrative Assistant

Job Purpose

The University Graduate School (UGS) supports and develops postgraduate researchers at the University of Birmingham and takes a strategic lead on issues relating to postgraduate researchers. This includes the ownership and administration of the Postgraduate Certificate in Advanced Research Methods and Skills (PGCARMS).

Careers Network, a division of Academic Services, delivers a wide range of career development, enterprise and employability services and works collaboratively with a range of internal and external partners.

The postholder will provide administrative support for PGCARMS and PGR-related Careers Network activities. The post will sit in the University Graduate School and report to the UGS Administrator but will also work collaboratively with colleagues in Careers Network to provide appropriate administrative support for PGR Careers Network provision.

Person Specification

Essential

• A good general education to GCSE Level including higher grade passes in English Language and Mathematics, or equivalent experience.
• In depth knowledge and experience of spreadsheets, databases and word processing packages.
• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
• A high level of attention to detail and accuracy.
• Ability to demonstrate the ability to work independently in a team environment.
• Ability to demonstrate good time management skills and the ability to work to deadlines.
• Good organisational skills including the ability to implement and maintain accurate records and, where appropriate, suggest new procedures.

Desirable

• A qualification in word processing such as RSA II
• Experience of working with Higher Education
• Experience of creating or maintaining online resources
