The University of Queensland Diamantina Institute

The University of Queensland Diamantina Institute was established in 2007 as the sixth research institute of The University of Queensland. The aim of the Institute is to develop a better understanding of the molecular and cellular basis of disease, and to translate that understanding into practical outcomes for patients. Based at the Translational Research Institute (TRI) at the Princess Alexandra Hospital teaching campus in Brisbane, the Institute has almost 300 researchers and students who work closely with clinicians in the areas of cancer, immunology and genomic medicine. UQDI is the largest partner in TRI, and is building major programs in Immunology, Cancer and Genomic Medicine research, with a particular focus on research aimed at development of new treatments.  Details of the research interests of academic staff may be accessed on the Institute's web site at http://www.di.uq.edu.au/research.

The role

The successful applicant will undertake research focused on developing novel in vivo models of leukaemia. The position is an important one within the broader UQDI Blood Cancer Program, and the successful candidate will be strongly encouraged to present data at conferences, publish data in high impact journals and apply for Fellowships and grants, to enhance the group's profile and advance their own research career. The appointee will be expected to participate in developing a program of research, including developing concepts, leading a project, contributing to supervision of research staff and students and managing resources.

The person

Applicants should possess a PhD in the area of the area biochemistry/molecular biology/cell biology, and have a background in leukaemia/haematopoiesis or immunology. Proven research skills and practical experience with in vivo experiments relevant to haematology/immunology are required. You should possess the ability to collaborate with colleagues, supervise staff and students, and demonstrate initiative and problem solving skills.

Remuneration

This is a full-time, fixed term appointment for 12 months at Research Academic level A. If the group is awarded further funding, the appointment may be extended. The remuneration package will be in the range of $62,653.88- $84,985.56 p.a., plus employer superannuation contributions of up to 17% (total package will be in the range of $73,305.04 - $99,433.11 p.a.).
