The University of Auckland (Faculty of Medical and Health Sciences) and Waikato District Health Board are seeking to appoint an Associate Professor/ Senior Lecturer in Psychiatry.

This full-time position, with both an academic and clinical component, will ideally suit an experienced enthusiastic psychiatrist who wants to combine a clinical appointment in adult general psychiatry with a university career. This role is particularly suitable for an early to mid-career academic psychiatrist.  The successful applicant will join the team at School of Medicine Waikato Clinical Campus and Waikato District Health Board to provide both academic and clinical leadership in the field of psychiatry.  We would be particularly interested in someone interested in research with and for indigenous people.

The University of Auckland is New Zealand’s leading and largest university and is the only New Zealand University ranked among the world’s top 200 universities by the Times Higher Education World Rankings of Universities.  The successful applicant will be expected to further develop research in psychiatry in the Waikato.

Waikato District Health Board (DHB) is one of 20 district health boards in New Zealand.  It serves a population of more than 400,820 in an area covering more than 21,000 square kilometres stretching from northern Coromandel to close to Mt Ruapehu in the south, and from Raglan on the west coast to Waihi on the east.  The mental health services are comprehensive and serve people from diverse cultures, with the ethnic mix including more Māori and more people in the more deprived sections of the population than the national average.

Candidates must hold a medical qualification that can be registered in New Zealand, a higher qualification in psychiatry equivalent to the Fellowship of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists (FRANZCP) and be eligible for vocational registration by the Medical Council of New Zealand as a Specialist Psychiatrist and should have experience in research and ideally hold an MD/PhD or equivalent.

Enquires to the Head of the Department of Psychological Medicine, Professor Sally Merry s.merry@auckland.ac.nz  or to the Clinical Director-Mental Health, Waikato DHB, Dr Rees Tapsell Rees.Tapsell@waikatodhb.health.nz.

The University has an equity policy and welcomes applications from all qualified persons.

The University is committed to meeting its obligations under the Treaty of Waitangi and achieving equity outcomes for staff and students.

Applications close on Sunday 19th February 2017.
