Faculty research is diverse and interdisciplinary, with a broad emphasis in areas of nursing, community and public health, and kinesiology. Researchers partner with an array of health and social care organizations, and research institutions within Canada and internationally. UOIT’s faculty and staff integrate several teaching technologies and approaches into their classes to inspire students and to nurture a critical approach to understanding health, health care and wellbeing in terms of the determinants of health. Facilities include state-of-the-art health sciences laboratories and the Interprofessional Centre of Excellence in Simulation. The Faculty of Health Sciences, in collaboration with Durham College and Georgian College, offers leading-edge bachelors programs in Nursing.

The Director of Nursing is the leadership role in Nursing within the Faculty of Health Sciences at UOIT. In the spirit of interdisciplinary and inter-professional collaboration, the Director of Nursing is responsible for leading nursing educational programing and vigorous and creative scholarships in the field of nursing and for furthering the collaboration between UOIT, Durham College, Georgian College and the community. With the mandate of enhancing student centered learning and success, and building on the strong foundations of the BScN collaborative program and the BScN-RN bridge programs in partnership with Durham College and Georgian College, the Director is mandated with leading Nursing at UOIT to continued levels of excellence, scope and societal impact.

Reporting to the Office of the Dean, Faculty of Health Sciences, the Director of Nursing oversees all aspects of planning, developing, implementing, and evaluating the Nursing programs offered within the Faculty, including assessing and further enhancing their success and ensuring they meet accreditation requirements. The Director of Nursing also provides advice and guidance to the Office of the Dean, including the Budget and Planning Officer, on Nursing program resources. In addition, as an academic leader within the Faculty of Health Sciences, the Director of Nursing promotes and facilitates diverse forms of research in both clinical, population and community-based settings and professional development activities to support enhancement of research capacity and teaching and learning excellence. As a visible ambassador of the Faculty of Health Sciences and UOIT externally, the Director of Nursing fosters partnerships with healthcare professionals and organizations in the local community, nationally and internationally to ensure that UOIT’s Nursing education and research programs are aligned with emerging trends in the health professional field globally and the pedagogical evolution of nursing.

As the ideal candidate, you have leadership and administrative experience in a complex multistakeholder healthcare organization or academic institution and current experience and credibility in a defined practice and/or area of specialization. You have a distinguished reputation, a record of excellence in research and teaching and the ability to motivate and support faculty in these endeavors. With both academic and clinical credibility, interdisciplinary collaboration is a hallmark of your approach as you have effectively engaged and fostered relationships with internal and external stakeholders. You are a strategic and forward thinker, a compelling communicator and are able to lead with both vision and clarity, keeping in mind the evolution of healthcare, nursing and nursing education in Canada and beyond. As someone with deep emotional intelligence, integrity, and compassion, you exhibit authentic leadership and have a passion for nursing education, faculty mentorship and student success. You are  currently licensed or are eligible for licensing as a Registered Nurse in the Province of Ontario and have a PhD in nursing or a relevant discipline from an accredited university.
