Job Details

Applicants are invited to apply for the role of Research Associate (thermal characterisation and thermal transport) in the School of Physics, Centre for Device Thermography and Reliability (CDTR), to work on advanced GaN microwave/RF, GaN power and GaN-on-diamond devices, diamond and two-dimensional materials, under the supervision of Prof. M. Kuball.

This position is in the research field of thermal characterisation and thermal transport on new material structures and devices. The post-holder will use leading thermal characterisation techniques developed at the University of Bristol, such as Raman thermography and transient reflectance, and develop new methods to advance the knowledge of thermal transport. While this is primarily an experimental post, it is desired that the post-holder combines the experimental knowledge with thermal modelling, and develop new - in particular, phonon-based thermal models.

The position benefits from a recently awarded EPSRC Programme Grant led by the University of Bristol on the development of step-changing GaN-on-diamond electronic device technology. The CDTR is active in many EU, US, and UK research programmes, and is funded by the UK Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC), the US Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency, the European Space Agency and other funding agencies, as well as by industry.

Further details can be obtained by informal enquiry to Prof. M. Kuball at martin.kuball@bristol.ac.uk or tel: 0117 928 8734.
