PROJECT MANAGERS (X4) (Post level 7) 1 YEAR CONTRACT POSITIONS

BACKGROUND:

The higher education system has a critical role to play in building a socially just society that provides for real social mobility.  In light of this, access has to be made available to students from poor and middle class families.  The establishment of the ISFAP Programme is an important development in this regard.

The aim of this advert is to recruit the most suitable candidates as Project Managers to assist the University with accomplishing this critical role. 

POSITIONS: Project Manager in the following Faculties /Departments:

Natural and Agricultural Sciences (NAS): Actuarial Science

Health Sciences: Teaching and Learning

Engineering, Built Environment and IT (EBIT): Engineering

Economic and Management Sciences (EMS): Accounting

RESPONSIBILITIES:

The incumbents will be required to:

  • Formulate and oversee the implementation of the strategic priorities for the various programmes (e.g. mentoring, community service, societies, workplace readiness programme) that fall within the ISFAP ambit;

  • Oversee the intake and on boarding process of ISFAP students which includes but is not limited to: Ordering and distributing text books, liaising with Student Finance in the allocation of bursary money to student accounts, arranging for and placing students in residences/accommodation;

  • Oversee the monitoring of student academic performance and initiate appropriate academic interventions in consultation with academic staff;

  • Oversee the development of the students’ pervasive skills to the required levels;

  • Manage the counselling and mentoring of students on the ISFAP programme as well as students in the Faculty  that have been identified as at risk;

  • Provide input into research projects undertaken pertaining to the programme;

  • Recruit, select and secure academically strong students for the programme in collaboration with the structures responsible for the marketing of the ISFAP programme;

  • Manage the financial administration of the programme;

  • Keep the funders and other key stakeholders informed of important matters pertaining to the programme;

  • Liaise and work with the staff involved with the day-to-day execution and administration of the programme;

  • Liaise with internal and other external stakeholders in order to ensure the effective operation of the programme;

  • MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

    FACULTY OF NAS:

  • Hons degree in Education Psychology, Social work or related disciplines.  A Master’s degree is preferred.

  • A minimum of three/five year’s relevant experience.

  •  

    FACULTY OF HEALTH SCIENCES:

  • Hons degree or equivalent qualification, preferably with an understanding of Health/Health professions education

  • A minimum of three/five year’s relevant experience.


  • FACULTY OF EBIT:

  • Hons degree or equivalent qualification, preferably with an understanding of Engineering professions education

  • A minimum of three/five year’s relevant experience.


  • FACULTY OF EMS:

  • Hons degree or equivalent qualification is required and a CA(SA) qualification would be an advantage

  • A minimum of three/five year’s relevant experience.


  • KEY COMPETENCIES REQUIRED

  • An understanding of the higher education environment;

  • The ability to effectively facilitate and support students’ learning and development;

  • Strong problem-solving skills;

  • Effective project management skills;

  • Basic research skills;

  • Proven leadership skills;

  • Ability to manage budgets and expenditures;

  • Sound personnel management skills;

  • Excellent communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills;

  • Strong end-user computing skills (e.g. in MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint);

  • Proficiency in the English language, both written and oral;

  • Proficiency in other official South African languages will be an advantage;

  • A demonstrated interest in student development;

  • Ability to work independently and under pressure;

  • Report compiling and organizational skills;

  • Ability to function effectively within a team and demonstrate adaptability;

  • Willingness and availability to work after normal office hours.

  • The all-inclusive remuneration package for this contract position will commensurate with the incumbent’s level of appointment, as determined by UP policy guidelines.
