The Field Application Scientist Manager reports to the Director of Sales – East and is responsible for managing a team of 12-15 direct reports.  The FAS manager will drive and translate the Environmental Health commercial, operational, and organizational strategies into specific and measureable actions within the field application scientist team.   Key responsibilities include communication between sales, leadership, customers, and other team members, building and maintaining strong customer/channel/employee relationships, and managing/maintaining an efficient and proficient team that can deliver consistently on management driven metrics.  The FAS manager is expected to maintain an exceptional working relationship with the service organization and build out best practices to support customer needs.
 
Key Responsibilities
 
  • Working with sales team, manage pre and post-sale support of customer expectations.
  • Partnering with the sales and service teams - implementing the Go-to-Market business development strategy for the Environmental Health application team.
  • Support team to drive profitable business growth within an assigned geography.
  • Help manage percent to plan for teams and accountability for their individual assigned sales plan.
  • Develop a business plan that supports their assigned group.
  • Identify important market/customer opportunities for growth and development for team members, and implement action plans to grow deeper customer relationships in key/team accounts.
  • Support the sales teams in the development and execution of tactics to reach regional goals to execute business plans and deliver on commitments.
  • Constantly upgrade team talent by identifying critical skills and competencies necessary to provide best-in-class performance.
  • Identify important market/customer opportunities for growth and development for team members, and implement action plans to grow deeper customer relationships in key/team accounts.
  • Engage scientific discussions with customers and cultivate relationships.
  • Provide feedback to marketing and R&D regarding application, hardware, and software features needed to stay ahead of changing market.
  • Analyze markets, competitors and trends central to the growth strategy for the business.
  • Achieve regional sales operational objectives by contributing regional sales information and recommendations to strategic plans and reviews; preparing and completing action plans.
  • Maintain and expand customer base by helping to guide sales representatives; building and maintaining rapport with key customers; identifying new customer opportunities and applications.
  • Recommend product lines by identifying new product opportunities, and/or product, packaging, and service changes; surveying consumer needs and trends; tracking competitors.
  • Implement trade promotions by publishing, tracking, and evaluating trade spending.
  • Demonstrates ability to build and maintain positive and productive working relationships across a broad range of people and groups.
  • Ensures that all team members are accountable for both their own roles and for contributing to the efforts of the entire geographic and regional sales and service teams as well as the overall success of PerkinElmer. 
  • Communicates and coaches others on PerkinElmer values, behaviors, and work practices.
  • Makes sound, well informed, and objective decisions; perceives the impact and implications of these decisions; commits to action, even in uncertain situations, that support accomplishment of organizational goals.
