The Centre for Environmental Science in the Faculty of Engineering and the Environment (FEE) at the University of Southampton invites applications for a Teaching Fellow in Geographical Information Systems (GIS) and related Environmental Science areas.

You will provide high quality teaching and student support in Geographical Information Systems (GIS) and related Environmental Science areas such as Natural Resource Governance and Forestry.  The appointment will lead teaching and student support during Semester 2 of Academic Year 2016/2017, and Semester 1 of Academic Year 2017/2018. 

You will be responsible for leading teaching and assessment on the following modules: ENVS2008 GIS for Environmental Scientists; ENVS6033 GIS for Engineers; ENVS3015 GIS Function and Environmental Applications; ENVS2012 Environmental Instrumentation; ENVS6032 Geographical Information Systems.  Further to these key modules there is the expectation of contributions to ENVS3016/6027 Natural Resource Governance and ENVS1006 Environmental Science: Research and Applications.  In addition you will be required to supervise a small number of Undergraduate and Postgraduate Research Projects.  An experienced member of the Environmental Science teaching staff will provide support and guidance for all teaching, assessment, and research project supervision work.

The ability to deliver a range of innovative teaching and assessment approaches is essential. The Centre for Environmental Sciences has an outstanding reputation for high quality student support and feedback.  You will contribute to the continuation of this reputation and to strengthen our degree programmes by contributing to strategic education developments.

It is essential you have experience of teaching at University level along with practical experience of using GIS software. Most importantly we are looking for a dynamic individual who passionate about GIS and Environmental Science, engineering and who will communicate the excitement of this important area to undergraduate and postgraduate students. It is expected that the successful candidate will have industrial links and experience that would facilitate collaboration and development of the taught programme as well as advancing scholarship, research and enterprise in the broader Environmental Science subject areas.
