Job Details

Context
Assessment of left ventricular (LV) mechanical dyssynchrony in heart failure patients is typically based on the echocardiographic analysis of differences in timing of myocardial velocity or deformation of the ventricular walls. The objective of the MAESTRo ANR project is to propose a new model-based approach: 1) for the analysis of 3D echocardiography strain, in order to improve the diagnosis of cardiopathies (including heart failure), 2) to better select patients that may benefit from an implantable device and 3) to assist the clinicians on the best way to configure device-based therapy.

Goal
A cardiac model, with a tissue-level resolution adapted to 3D strain analysis, will be proposed within the MAESTRo project. The proposed model-based approach will integrate a global modeling environment, that combines multi-formalism simulation, sensitivity analysis and model parameter identification. The task of the recruited person will be to: 1) implement a new version of the ventricle model, which will be based on previous works of our team, 2) propose a first parameter analysis based on the comparison with experimental 3D strain signals.

The implementation of LV will be based of Finite-Element Formalism, using simulation software. The electrical and hydraulic parts of the model are currently implemented using M2SL (multiformalism modeling and simulation environment), which is a C++ simulation library developed by our team. One of the challenges will be to ensure a satisfying coupling between both parts of the model, while providing simulation of 3D strain signals.

Profile
We are looking for a highly motivated postdoctoral scientist with expertise in computational modeling. The applicant will have some skills either in computer sciences or applied mathematics. Experience in analysis of systems of ODEs or PDEs and Numerical computation will be highly appreciated. Knowledge about physiological systems would be an advantage but is not necessary.
