Job Details
This position contributes significantly to the leadership, strategic direction and conduct of civil engineering research generally and transport-related research more specifically within QUT. This research at QUT occurs within the School of Civil Engineering and Built Environment, across two research centres Centre for Accident Research and Road Safety – Queensland (CARRS-Q), Smart transport Research Centre (STRC) as well as a major research institute, the Institute for Future Environments (IFE). The position will be enabled and benefit from engagement with and contribution to these areas.
This position is supported through the Transport Academic Partnership (TAP) by an agreement between the Queensland State Government (Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR)), Motor Accident Insurance Commission and the Queensland University of Technology. Similar positions are funded through the TAP at the University of Queensland and Griffith University with the three Chair Professors working in collaboration to deliver on an ambitious and impactful research agenda.
The objectives of the agreement are to:

build transport research excellence and capability in Queensland;
-
foster a collaborative partnership and strong alliance between government, industry and the academic sector; and
-
fund an enable transport related R&D activities that deliver positive outcomes for the transport system and the Queensland community.
In support of these objectives, this position has the following research focus areas:
-
transport safety and risk;
-
travel behaviour; network operations and management optimisation; and
-
transport data analytics.
The other research focus areas supported by the other university partners include:
-
transport planning;
-
transport geography;
-
transport economics;
-
freight and logistics;
-
public transport service planning;
-
public transport operations; and
-
remote sensing and image processing for traffic flow information.
This position reports to the Head, School of Civil Engineering and the Built Environment for supervision, workload management and for Performance Planning and Review (PPR-AS).
Key responsibilities include:
-
Lead the agreement and delivery of its research and development objectives as well as the administrative responsibilities.

Foster strong and productive relationships with stakeholders including fellow Chairs.
-
Develop national and international collaborative networks to enhance the quality of research and international reputation of the University.
-
Play a major role in scholarship, research, and leadership and engagement.
-
Provide effective mentoring and coaching to early and mid-career academics.
-
Contribute to the leadership of the School.
-
Implementing and administering University policy within the Faculty with respect to equitable access to education and workplace health and safety.

To be appointed as a Professor the successful applicant must meet the position classification standards outlined in the QUT Enterprise Agreement (Academic Staff).

Completion of a doctoral qualification in the relevant discipline area.

Proven record of engagement with extensive professional networks to build best practice for the discipline or unit.

Deep ability to build cohesive teams around mutually understood strategic objectives which are aligned to the outcomes of the university.

Demonstrated success in enhanced research and graduate outcomes through leveraging national/ international networks to build or enhance the reputation of the university and its outcomes.

Significant evidence of clarity as a strategic thinker, able to be adaptive and future oriented in a way that provide real impact to the discipline/university.

Proven record viewed as a strong evidence based leader who embraces a continuous improvement framework
