The Supply Analytical Sciences (SAS) organization within Analytical Chemistry Development and Supply (ACDS) is seeking to fill an Associate Principal Scientist level position responsible for providing scientific solutions and strategic guidance to enable uninterrupted supply of our products to patients. This organization is within the analytical center of excellence for Supply that provides innovative analytical solutions for the global Merck Manufacturing Network. We're looking for a motivated individual interested in applying innovative analytical characterization technologies to enhance our scientific problem solving capabilities and in collaborating with partners across the Merck Manufacturing Division (MMD) network.

In this role, the Associate Principal Scientist will provide analytical support for process validation stage and commercial in-line products. The individual will be responsible to manage and/or execute test method transfers and design and execute protocols to assess API and drug product performance, quality, and stability. This position will be responsible for execution and/or oversight of testing performed internally as well as coordination of testing performed at external contract facilities. The individual will participate in cross functional teams supporting regulatory filings, manufacturing investigations, method modernizations and general analytical life-cycle activities. As an analytical representative in multidisciplinary working groups the analytical chemist is accountable for critical interpretation of data and presenting findings for review at team meetings. The analytical scientist will act as a product steward for specific products with integrated support from the full analytical team. The work is highly collaborative and requires excellent communication skills and a desire to be part of a team. The ideal candidate will be well versed in materials characterization and structure elucidation and be proficient in analytical techniques such as NMR and LC-MS/MS. Preferred capabilities include experience in solid state characterization including particle size, thermal, and XRPD analyses.

Candidates should have a minimum of 7 years of relevant experience and the necessary educational background in chemistry and/or pharmaceutical sciences. Motivation to work in a team environment with cross-functional interactions are essential.

Qualifications

Education:

- Required: MS or PhD in chemistry or a related field of study

Required:

- The candidate for this role should be well-versed in a broad range of analytical testing techniques such as, LC-MS, NMR, HPLC, GC

- The candidate should have working knowledge of industry guidelines (i.e. ICH, USP, EP, BP, JP, FDA, EMEA)

Preferred:

- Prior experience working in a GMP laboratory.

- Preferred to have Structure elucidation, materials characterization, and or solid state analysis
