Junior Lecturer (20 hours per week)

PLEASE NOTE: The position is externally funded and the continued employment is dependent on the availability of funds.

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Responsible for teaching and learning of undergraduate students including surgery (burns) and basic rehabilitation principles.
  • Supervise and assess students in the clinical areas, especially with relevance to the Burns Unit.
  • Responsible for administrative tasks within the Department and School for Allied Health Professions.
  • Market under- and postgraduate programmes within the Department Physiotherapy.
  • Conduct own research and supervise undergraduate research. 
  • Inherent requirements:

  • B.Sc. in Physiotherapy.
  • Registered as Physiotherapist for 2016 with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA).
  • Three (3) years clinical experience in rehabilitation. 
  • A good academic record.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Required competencies:

    • Organisational abilities
    • Good human relations.

    Recommendations:

    • Paediatric NDT or adult NDT/Bobath certification.
    • Willing to enrol for a masters’ degree in Physiotherapy at the first available opportunity, if not yet attained by the time of the appointment.
    • Ability to teach and train students according to the language policy of the University of the Free State.

    Assumption of duties:

    1 February 2017 or as soon as possible thereafter.
