Research Associate in Urban Living

The Faculty of Engineering is seeking to appoint two Research Associates to work on the Bristol Urban ID (Integrated Diagnostics) project with Dr Ges Rosenberg, Helen Manchester and David Manley on an RCUK Urban Living Partnership project based in Bristol.  The role will also require working collaboratively with a range of research partners, including citizen groups, local partnerships, local authorities and businesses.

You will be based in a world-leading interdisciplinary research environment at the University of Bristol.  The roles provide an excellent opportunity to join a strong team developing state of the art approaches to diagnosing urban challenges across a broad range of disciplines.  Funding is secured for 2017, and part of the role will include supporting bids for follow on research work.

You will be required to gather and analyse data, review and summarise literature relating to the many of the following areas: co-produced learning, citizen and stakeholder engagement, participatory design, co-benefits, well-being indicators, interdependent systems, resilience, sustainability, public and private service delivery, social innovation, city commons and urban living, smart cities, and future cities.

You will have experience of conducting empirical qualitative research in an interdisciplinary area, establishing ethical working relationships and building good collaborative relationships with research partners, designing and delivering workshops with project partners. You will also possess excellent writing skills and be able to demonstrate the ability to produce high quality academic outputs.  You will have a PhD, or the equivalent experience, in a social science or engineering discipline.

The two posts are offered on a full time, six month fixed-term basis. The start date is negotiable but would ideally be by 1st March 2017.
