The University of Queensland's Australian Institute for Bioengineering and Nanotechnology (AIBN) is a dynamic multi-disciplinary research institute dedicated to developing technology to alleviate societal problems in the areas of health, energy, manufacturing and environmental sustainability. StemCore is a state-of-the-art Pluripotent Stem Cell Core Facility at AIBN that enables and accelerates stem cell research for academics and industries working in the area of regenerative medicine. StemCore offer a range of products and services, including proprietary human embryonic and induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs), cell characterization, and comprehensive training programs. In collaboration with academic and industry partners, StemCore custom-generate iPSCs, genome-edit, and differentiate these lines into various lineages to study disease development and use these lines for drug and toxicity screening.

StemCore is managed by Stem Cells Limited, a non-profit biotech company established by The University of Queensland and Monash University.

The role

The successful appointee will be required to run the cell culture activities of the StemCore Facility including the generation, cultivation and characterization of induced pluripotent stem cell lines as well as the differentiation of stem cells into various cell types.

The person

Applicants should possess a degree in Cell Biology or a related discipline (HEW 5); or a degree in Cell Biology or a related discipline with subsequent relevant work experience (HEW 6); or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training. Experience with human pluripotent stem cells including extensive experience in cell reprogramming and stem cell differentiation with hands-on experience in molecular techniques including multi-colour immunostainings, flow cytometry, PCR, Western Blot and ELISA is essential. You must have high level communication and organisational skills with demonstrated capability to accurately document experimental procedures. For appointment at HEW 6, you must have experience in literature research and design of research experiments.   

Remuneration

This is a full-time, fixed term appointment for one year at HEW Level 5 or 6. Appointment level is dependent upon qualifications, skills and experience. The remuneration package will be in the range $64,597 - $72,348 p.a (HEW 5) or $74,207 - $79,964 p.a. (HEW 6), plus employer superannuation contributions of up to 17% - total package will be in the range $75,579 - $84,648 p.a. (HEW 5) or $86,822 – 93,558 p.a. (HEW 6).
