Purpose:
Scope: Directs and oversees the development and integration of PCR assays on the new PerkinElmer PCR and sample prep platform. Advises PKI on design decisions for the new PCR platform.

Leadership: Leads the PerkinElmer (PKI) PCR development team of 4 scientists in Waltham.

Culture: The Assay & Systems Development Manager establishes a “Culture of Accountability”, with a focus on sense of urgency, execution, attention to detail and team work.

Collaboration: Closely collaborates with Diagnostics R&D teams and Operations groups at all PKI sites. For the initial project collaboration will be especially required between Waltham (reagents), Hopkinton (instrumentation, software), Turku (manufacturing, software) and Baesweiler (sample prep). Shares experience with the Taicang Molecular team leader.

Responsibilities:
  • Lead a team of 4 scientists to develop the new NeoMDx multiplex PCR assay and integrates it on the future PKI PCR instrument platform.
    • Finalize assay development following PKI’s Design Control process
    • Integrate instrumentation (sample prep & PCR realtime cycler), reagents, software and disposables, meeting all requirements
    • Identify the new PKI realtime Thermal Cycler (missing element in the PKI PCR System)
    • Develop future PCR assays on the new platform
  • Deliver projects on time, on budget, on quality.
  • Provide input to Program Management to allow planning of realistic project timelines, resource allocations and budget
  • Ensure the budget is adhered to throughout fiscal year (measured quarterly)
  • Ensure compliance of IVD products
  • Build, train and maintain a high performing team
