The School of Biological Sciences at The University of Auckland are seeking a highly motivated and capable laboratory technician to provide undergraduate teaching and research support to the structural biology area.

As part of the Cellular, Molecular and Organismal group you will take on a varied role supporting undergraduate teaching and a research laboratory with skills in structural biology, biochemistry and molecular biology.  Skills include protein purification, fermentation, cell culture media preparation and aseptic techniques.  You will also have experience with microbial DNA extraction, purification, cloning and PCR operation.    

Applicants should have a BSc in a molecular biology related field.  Experience with both structural biology and molecular biology is highly desirable.  Laboratory research experience would be an advantage with experience in X-ray crystallography and microbial fermentation an added advantage.

The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to teaching, research laboratory management and maintenance of containment and health and safety standards in a research lab. An ability to plan, organize, multitask, prioritize work demands and to demonstrate good interpersonal skills are essential requirements for this position.
