Marine Discovery Centre Manager

The Goat Island Marine Discovery Centre, situated at Goat Island marine reserve 100 kms north of Auckland, is looking to appoint a Marine Discovery Centre Manager.  Our stunning marine campus encompasses both the Leigh Marine Laboratory, and the Goat Island Marine Discovery Centre; a purpose built centre that educates visitors about the marine environment and the research activities of the Institute of Marine Science.

This unique role will see you managing the day to day operational requirements of the Marine Discovery Centre including team management, overseeing and growing the outreach programme and identifying and communicating opportunities for the Marine Discovery Centre and Institute of Marine Science to increase its visibility and profile to the local community and wider audiences. Continually looking for ways to build new revenue streams and ways to promote science programmes to potential undergraduate students through the educational outreach programme will be an important focus. As will the need to devise and execute effective marketing and public relations strategies to reach appropriate audiences.

This rewarding role will suit an outdoors person who thrives in a varied work environment.  You will be customer focussed, at home interacting with a wide range of people and comfortable leading a team to success.  You will bring a broad range of experience including a demonstrable interest in the marine science and conservation environment, marketing, team management, a strong customer service ethos and a commercial mind-set that will facilitate business development and increased revenue for the Centre. Some flexibility is key as some weekend work may be required.
