Job Details
We are seeking applications for a fully-funded 3-year PhD studentship (covering fees and maintenance at standard RCUK rates) in the research group of Dr Ruchi Gupta. Dr Gupta’s research is largely focused on the development of optical sensors made of soft materials for healthcare applications. She has received an EPSRC Healthcare Technologies Challenge Award, which has been given to 9 upcoming research leaders in the UK to develop novel technologies for healthcare applications (https://www.epsrc.ac.uk/newsevents/news/healthcaretechchallengeawards/). Her group is rapidly expanding and raising its profile by both carrying out cutting edge research in optical sensors and presenting the findings at international levels. More information about Dr Gupta’s research can be found here: http://www.birmingham.ac.uk/schools/chemistry/people/navigation.aspx?ReferenceId=126213&Name=dr-ruchi-gupta.
The PhD project will be focused on developing innovative optical sensor systems to understand chronic wound biology and permit timely diagnosis of hard to heal wounds. You will join a vibrant, supportive and highly collaborative research team. You will be based in the School of Chemistry, which is located in close proximity to Medical and Dental School and Queen Elizabeth Hospital. This will offer several opportunities to interact with clinicians, life scientists and medical researchers. There will also be opportunities to work with external partners, public organisations and industry.
In order to qualify for this studentship you will require a Masters degree in Chemical Sciences or Physical Sciences or Engineering with a strong interest/ experience in analytical science, sensors, optics and/ or instrumentation.
Applications can be made via the following link: https://sits.bham.ac.uk/lpages/EPS006.htm. For an informal discussion, please contact Dr Ruchi Gupta by email: r.gupta.3@bham.ac.uk. For information about the University of Birmingham, visit http://www.birmingham.ac.uk/index.aspx.
Funding Notes
The funding is for UK/ EU students only.
