LECTURER / SENIOR LECTURER / ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR (ONE POST)

BACKGROUND:

The Department of Actuarial Science offers undergraduate and postgraduate degrees in Actuarial Science through which exemptions are offered from the examinations of the Actuarial Society of South Africa for the A100, A200, A300 subjects and some of the F100 subjects. The Department collaborates with several departments including Economics, Statistics, Mathematics and Applied Mathematics and Electrical, Electronic and Computer Engineering as well as the UP Natural Hazard Centre on research projects related to finance, risk management, insurance and banking.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

The successful candidate will be expected to lecture and participate in curriculum development at undergraduate and postgraduate level. In addition, our actuaries are expected to participate in the undertaking and supervision of research projects.

 

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Lecturer:

  • An associate actuary (AMASSA);
  • Master’s degree or at least three years’ post qualification experience.


Senior Lecturer: 

  • A qualified actuary (FASSA/FFA/FIA/FIAA) with lecturing experience;
  • PhD or actuarial experience of at least five years’ post qualification.


Associate Professor: 

  • A qualified actuary (FASSA/FFA/FIA/FIAA) with lecturing experience;
  • PhD degree or actuarial experience of at least five years’ post qualification and proven research outputs.

 

The annual remuneration package will be commensurate with the incumbent’s level of appointment, as determined by UP policy guidelines. UP subscribes to the BESTMED medical aid scheme and contributes 50% of the applicable monthly premium.
