The Merck Vaccines Pharmacy Customer Representative is a key member of the Vaccine Retail Pharmacy Account Team and plays a critical role in supporting Merck's customer centric business model. He/she is responsible for delivering on PPO objectives for assigned products with prioritized retail pharmacy chains within the MSA. This is achieved by:

- Collaborating with the Vaccine Retail Pharmacy Customer Team to understand, identify and align local Retail Pharmacy account needs

- Engaging key individuals (pharmacy supervisors, clinical coordinators, operations managers, store pharmacists and staff) within Retail Pharmacy chain customers to support goals of improving public health and increasing vaccination rates

- Developing and executing on local account plans, aligned with national and regional strategy and plans

- Supporting approved pull-through activities at the store-level relative to the Retail Pharmacy account strategy

- Engaging with select clinic locations, to support identification of potential vaccinees for referral to pharmacy with Rx (shingles) and for in-office vaccination (pneumo)

- Ensuring that Merck is viewed as demonstrating value and better health outcomes to healthcare professionals and their patients across multiple levels of the customer organization

- Collaborating cross functionally to optimize vaccine business within the ecosystem (clinic, pharmacy, IDS, public sector, US3C, primary care).

The Pharmacy Customer Representative supports Merck’s business activities by:

- Managing/optimizing assigned business portfolio by collaborating with key pharmacy personnel across clinical, operations and management functions

- Customizing product discussions and interactions based on understanding of each individual Retail Pharmacy customer's needs and position within the customer organization

- Engaging in informed and fully compliant discussions about products with Retail Pharmacy customers and with ‘refer only’ clinic locations - knowing when/how to seek and provide additional information

- Serving as primary point of contact for customer account within an MSA – meeting with key customers/personnel to understand account structure, business model, key influencers, Managed Care Organizations (MCO), employers, state and local regulations/network structure, and customer needs in order to identify and pull through business opportunities.

- Collaborating with Pharmacy District Managers within each Retail Pharmacy account in a business to business setting to support customer strategy - outlining plans for interactions/ relationship, solutions and potential offerings for customer.

- Partnering with USHH Account Executives (AEs) to align corporate chain strategy, identify business opportunities and maintain strong focus on Managed Care pull-through

- Demonstrating value by sharing learnings and industry best-practices to help customers meet their needs, as aligned with Merck policy and approved resources

- Sharing a focus on better health outcomes with the customer

- Working with account to identify and select approved programs/services available in the library of Merck "resources" to address customer needs

- Collaborating and communicating effectively with extended "in-scope" customer team to ensure a consistent customer experience across Merck's divisions and functional areas; ensure integration with Vaccine Pharmacy Account Executive (VPAE), Merck Vaccines HQ personnel, Vaccine Customer Representatives (VCRs), US3C Contact Center, Health Science Consultant (HSC), Account Executive (AE), Regional Medical Director (RMD), USHH personnel and other key stakeholders to share key customer learning and support customer needs

- Optimizing business by collaborating effectively within “ecosystem”, coordinating with US3C and VCR counterparts

- Demonstrating skills in all competency areas (Account Management, Market Management, Customer Segmentation and Targeting, Sales Acumen)

- Demonstrating leadership skills

- Prioritizing compliance with internal and external regulations and policies

- Influencing beyond their specific geography or product area, within and across MSAs

Qualifications

Education:

- Required: BA/BS

- Preferred: MBA/MS

Required:

- Experience working in one or more of the following areas: Pharmaceutical/Healthcare, Sales, Consulting, Customer Service or Military.

- Excellent communication skills (written and oral)

- Self- directed and organized

- Possess strong interpersonal and leadership qualities with demonstrated success in establishing and maintaining relationships in an academic or professional setting

- Excellent planning and organizational skills and good judgment

- Valid Driver’s License

Preferred:

- Prior experience developing and executing plans for engaging customers and meeting customer needs

- Demonstrated success in establishing, developing and maintaining relationships

- Prior experience working in a highly regulated industry or environment where compliance to policies is critical

- Prior experience working in a scientific field or healthcare environment

- Prior account management experience and skillsets

- Prior experience developing new business opportunities with existing customers

- Experience establishing new customer relationships

- Understanding of Merck products and therapeutic areas

- Vaccine sales experience

- Understanding of Merck HQ operations

- Ability to analyze metrics to assess progress against objectives

- Exposure to pharmacy customers and trends impacting pharmacy practice
