    The Faculty of Sciences is one of five faculties at the University of Adelaide. As the first university in Australia to grant degrees in science (1882), science has long been at the cornerstone of the institution and this continues today. As a research and education leader in fields such as biomedical sciences, agricultural, environmental and earth sciences, and photonics, the faculty offers an exciting and innovative work environment.  

    The School of Physical Sciences is one of four Schools in the Faculty of Sciences.  Located at the University's North Terrace campus, the School brings together the internationally recognised contemporary disciplines of chemistry; earth science; and physics, delivering undergraduate and postgraduate education, training and research with both national relevance and global outreach and networks in the public and private sectors.

    We are seeking a Postdoctoral Research Fellow who will conduct research as part of an Australian Research Council funded project, utilising mass spectrometry and computational modelling to elucidate the role of lipids in protein misfolding disorders.  The successful candidate is expected to have a demonstrated strong independent research capacity in related areas.  They will take a leadership role within the international collaborative team (with opportunity for travel to collaborating laboratories at Kings College, London), and interact successfully with students, collaborators, supervisors and funding bodies.  The successful candidate will have excellent written and oral communication skills with the desire to seek their own independent funding by capitalising on the opportunities provided.

    Salary: (Level A) $63,975 to $86,820 per annum

    Superannuation: An employer contribution of 9.5% applies

    Term of position: This fixed-term, full time position is available immediately, initially for a period of twelve months with the possibility of an extension for a further eighteen months.

    Position requirements

    To be successful you should have:

    • PhD in Chemistry, Biochemistry or other relevant discipline;
    • Advanced skills and experience in either biological mass spectrometry, or hybrid computational methods in structural biology
    • Excellent written and oral communication skills (for conference presentations, manuscript preparation, grant preparation)
    • Experience working in multi-disciplinary and international Chemistry programs
    • Ability to undertake a leadership role within a team and interact with students, collaborators, supervisors and funding bodies
