RESPONSIBILITIES:

The incumbent will be responsible for:

  • The execution and review of payroll;
  • The running and review of audit reports;
  • The reconciliation of tax, UIF, SDL and IRP5’s;
  • Ensuring accurate salary expense in financial system;
  • Ensuring accurate and complete updates of changes to parameters;
  • Performance management, training, enquiries and assistance to administrative officers;
  • The continuous improvement and development of systems and controls.

 

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • BCom Accounting degree;
  • Five years’ previous payroll experience.

 

REQUIRED COMPETENCIES (SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND BEHAVIOURAL ATTRIBUTES):

  • Knowledge of:
    • Accounting principles;
    • Basic conditions of Employment Act;
    • Medical aid procedures;
    • Execution of payroll;
    • Income Tax Act;
    • Tax Administration Act;
    • Local legislation;
    • Payroll principles;
    • SARS legislation and regulations;
    • Skills Development Levy Act;
    • Unemployment Insurance Act;
    • Pension Fund Act;
  • Technical skills:
    • Accounting;
    • Analytical skills;
    • Computer literacy;
    • Investigative skills;
    • Numerical skills;
  • Behavioural attributes:
    • Conflict management;
    • Facilitation skills;
    • Stress management;
    • Interpersonal skills;
    • Accuracy.

 

ADDED ADVANTAGES AND PREFERENCES:

  • BCom Hons in Taxation;
  • Registration as a Tax Practitioner;
  • Knowledge and understanding of the tertiary environment;
  • PeopleSoft experience.

The total remuneration package for this position ranges from approximately R 470 920 to R 580 469 as determined by UP policy guidelines. (These amounts include the University’s contributions to standard UP benefits, namely provident fund, group life and funeral cover, but exclude contributions to medical aid, as the latter varies per employee.) UP subscribes to the BESTMED medical aid scheme and contributes 50% of the applicable monthly premium.
