Public Engagement with Research Unit (PERu)

The University of Southampton is in the top one per cent of world universities and is one of the UK’s top 15 research-intensive universities. We are committed to sharing knowledge, resources and skills with the public, and to listening to and learning from the expertise and insight of the different communities with which we engage.

We are looking for an experienced public engagement professional to support the work of the University’s recently formed Public Engagement with Research unit (PERu).  Externally funded by RCUK Catalyst Seed Fund, the PERu team is leading on a number of exciting initiatives to enable the University to fully embed public engagement with research within the wider context of its institutional strategy.

With previous experience working in a higher education, public or third sector setting, you will manage the operational aspects of our Southampton Science and Engineering Festival, our Human Worlds Festival, the Bringing Research to Life Roadshow, plus a limited number of smaller-scale activities throughout the year.

This is an opportunity for someone with substantial experience of events management at multiple venues, preferably with experience of delivering activities related to academic research. You will be a key member of the Public Engagement with Research team, delivering our strategy for festivals that has been developed recently, and you will be able to work with colleagues across all academic disciplines.

If you would like to discuss the post informally, please contact Dr Steve Dorney on 023 80594937 or via email peru@southampton.ac.uk.

Application procedure:

You should submit your completed online application form at www.jobs.soton.ac.uk. The application deadline will be midnight on the closing date stated above.
