LECTURER (LIFE ORIENTATION)

RESPONSIBILITIES:

The incumbent will be responsible for:

  • Offering education programmes in the BEd undergraduate, PGCE and honours programme focusing on, but not limited to, Life Orientation;
  • Providing postgraduate supervision;
  • Developing modules within Life Orientation and Life Orientation Methodology as specialisation in the IP/SP/FET phase;
  • Offering teaching methodology in the field of specialisation;
  • Assisting with the mentoring of teaching practice students in the field of specialisation;
  • Conducting research in the focus areas of the Department.

 

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Master’s or PhD in Life Orientation or Psychology;
  • Two years’ teaching experience in offering Life Orientation at school level;
  • Experience in programme/module development in the field of specialisation at school level and/or higher education level;
  • Evidence of research activeness, particularly in terms of research outputs, over the past two years;
  • Registration with SACE.

 

REQUIRED COMPETENCIES (SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND BEHAVIOURAL ATTRIBUTES):

  • Ability to engage in teaching and learning at a higher education level using technology mediated teaching and assessment;
  • Appropriate language and communication skills;
  • Thorough understanding of the NCS and CAPS and how it is implemented in the field of Life Orientation;
  • Ability to initiate and supervise research at postgraduate level;
  • Ability to work in a community of scholars;
  • Value-based and value-driven person with the ability to set professional example to students.

 

ADDED ADVANTAGES AND PREFERENCES:

  • Experience in the mentoring of teaching practice students;
  • Ability to co-ordinate or manage programme delivery.

 

The total remuneration package for this position ranges from approximately R 405 655 to R 537 030 as determined by UP policy guidelines. (These amounts include the University’s contributions to standard UP benefits, namely provident fund, group life and funeral cover, but exclude contributions to medical aid, as the latter varies per employee.) UP subscribes to the BESTMED medical aid scheme and contributes 50% of the applicable monthly premium
