Salary:  £29,301 to £32,004

Applications are invited for a Researcher in Official Statistics, in the Division of Social Statistics and Demography (http://www.southampton.ac.uk/demography). 

You will have a PhD* (or be near to completing) or equivalent professional qualifications and experience in Statistics or a related, the ability to manage and deliver high-quality research and communicate the outcomes in reports and through presentations, and have strong programming skills. It would be an advantage to have experience in at least one of official statistics, small area estimation, administrative data, price indices.

*Applications for Research Fellow positions will be considered from candidates who are working towards or nearing completion of a relevant PhD qualification.  The title of Research Fellow will be applied upon successful completion of the PhD.  Prior to the qualification being awarded the title of Senior Research Assistant will be given.

The position is tenable from 1 February 2017, or as soon as possible thereafter and is available on a full-time basis for a fixed term of 12 months, which may be extended.  The Division of Social Statistics and Demography at Southampton is internationally known for its research in sample surveys, official statistics, statistical modelling, demography and social policy, and takes a strategic role in the development and promotion of the use of quantitative methods in the social sciences.
