A vacancy has arisen for a Post Doctoral Research Fellow for a period of 30 months in Lung Cancer Research at the University of Southampton, funded by Cancer Research UK. 

The person appointed will join a team investigating the role of epigenetics and non-coding RNAs behind the immune response in lung cancer. By understanding the molecular mechanisms behind failed immune responses, we intend to target and enhance the immune response against cancer in order to improve patient survival. We wish to appoint an enthusiastic and ambitious person who thrives in an exciting and busy academic environment, and has a flair for meticulous work as well as creative and independent thinking. You will be expected to be organized, self-motivated and effective, working as part of a team. 

A PhD or equivalent professional qualifications and experience in a relevant field is an essential requirement. Experience in standard molecular biology techniques including primer design, PCR, gene cloning, microRNA extraction and transfection is desirable but not essential. 

The project will entail a significant amount work with in vivo tumour models. We will pursue ways of manipulating the immune infiltrate (macrophages, T-cells, B-cells and NK cells) to enhance the anti-tumour response and thus help future cancer immunotherapies. Thus, experience working with in vivo models will be highly desirable.

The post is available from March 2017, for 30 months.
