Job Details
Job Purpose
We seek to appoint a Welfare Tutor to provide professional and proactive welfare support to students within a School environment in the College of Arts and Law. This will include the School of Languages, Art History and Music (LCAHM).
The role will involve:
- • Providing pastoral and study-related advice to students in the School following referral by a member of academic staff or by student self-referral;
- • Making referrals as appropriate to specialist services in the University;
- • Acting as the Reasonable Adjustment Co-ordinator for the School;
- • Acting as the Extenuating Circumstances Officer for the School as appropriate;
- • Contributing to and support the induction of new and returning students;
- • Developing and implementing efficient and appropriate systems for recording and managing student case work, reasonable adjustments, extenuating circumstances and ensuring effective integration of relevant policies and procedures within the School.
The post will form part of a wider team of professional services and academic staff providing comprehensive support to students within the School. The post holder will be line-managed by the School Operations Manager and form part of the College virtual team of Welfare Tutors.
Person Specification
Essential
- • A good first degree or equivalent qualification
- • Significant and demonstrable understanding of undergraduate and postgraduate education and the student lifecycle
- • Extensive experience of working with and providing support to students who have welfare and/or study difficulties in a university environment, specifically from a professional services perspective
- • Significant practical experience of working in close partnership with academic and professional services staff to deliver a student facing service in a university environment
- • The ability to be self-motivated with experience of setting up new systems and processes to establish a new service
- • Extensive experience of managing sensitive and sometimes critical situations with discretion and acting with integrity
- • Excellent written and oral communication skills
- • Experience of working with confidential data and information and the ability to collate and analyse data from the service
- • Experience of using Microsoft Office applications and IT software used for student interactions such as Canvas
- • Experience of working accurately and paying close attention to details
- • Ability to manage own workload autonomously whilst also working as an effective member of a team
- • Flexibility to manage working hours according to business need
- • A working knowledge of data protection policy
Desirable:
- • A good first degree in a humanities discipline
- • Significant and demonstrable understanding of undergraduate and postgraduate education and the student lifecycle within the arts and law area
