Pediatric Neurologist-Epileptiologist

A full-time permanent faculty position as a pediatric neurologist-epileptologist in the Division of Neurology, Department of Paediatrics at the Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids), 555 University Avenue, Toronto, ON which is an academic health science centre dedicated to the care of children; affiliated with the University of Toronto is available immediately.

The successful candidate will be an academically-oriented pediatric neurologist-epileptologist who has strong clinical and neurophysiology skills. The candidate will have specialty training in Pediatric Neurology and have completed a Clinical Epilepsy Fellowship with training in both clinical epilepsy and pediatric electroencephalography (EEG). Certification in EEG will be an asset.

The position is combined clinical neurology/epilepsy and neurophysiology, with at least 50% time devoted to EEG and advanced epilepsy neurophysiology.  Neurophysiology work duties will include interpretation of routine pediatric and neonatal EEG, prolonged video EEG for diagnosis and epilepsy surgery evaluation, and continuous EEG monitoring in the pediatric, cardiac and neonatal intensive care units.  Clinical work duties will include care of children admitted to the epilepsy monitoring unit and the general neurology service, and ambulatory clinic.  Education and supervision of residents and other learners in clinical neurology, epilepsy and neurophysiology will be a large component of the daily work.  On call duties will include coverage of both general pediatric neurology and continuous ICU EEG. 

The successful candidate will be expected to participate actively in the clinical, educational, and research activities in the Division of Neurology.

 

The successful candidate should be eligible for an academic appointment at the University of Toronto. Rank and salary ($210,000-230,000) per annum will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.  The successful candidate will be eligible for a benefit package which includes medical, dental, life insurance, long term disability insurance, group insurance, pension plan, vision care, academic allowance and a relocation package and may be eligible for a one time signing bonus.   All candidates must be certified or eligible for certification in Neurology (Pediatric) by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada. Candidates must hold or be eligible for licensure with the Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario.
