The Merck Facility in Elkton Virginia is looking for an energetic professional for a Facility and Utility Systems Engineer to support Facility and Utility Operations and Maintenance with daily functions as needed to ensure total reliability of utility systems.

Initially, this role as part of a cross functional team is responsible for the designing, engineering, and planning for all facilities and utilities related to a new production facility, including new and retrofit projects to support production and plant operating activities. Provides technical advice on all facility and utility equipment purchases. Manages and resolves construction related problems as required in support of Global Engineering Services. Coordinates activities of crafts supporting facility and utility projects both during and after project.

Long term, this role as part of the IPT Maintenance Team will be the Facility and Utility Engineer responsible for assisting with trouble shooting facility and utility systems on an as needed basis which includes but not limited to chillers, air handler units (AHUs), WFI loops, clean steam generators, vapor compression stills, programmable logic controllers (PLC), humidifiers/dehumidifiers, Variable Frequency Drive (VFD) controllers and monitors. Provide investigation, engineering and change control support for all facility and utility systems including investigation of deviations of facility and utility systems and the determination of the root cause, along with the development of corrective actions to prevent reoccurrence. Responsible for engineering and change control support for small capital and expense projects for facility and utilities as necessary. Determines the scope of facility and utility projects, writes justification, and submits Request for Concurrence (RFC) for approval. Selects contractors and executes projects. The person in this position is the subject matter expert in facilities and utilities and has the ability to make decisions with high liability. The person provides leadership and training to others to promote excellence in maintenance practices as it relates to facilities and utilities equipment.

•Facility and Utility Equipment Validation Support
•Technical Writing (SOP's)
•Investigation of deviations (both minor and major), with responsibility to interface with Operations, GVTE (Global Vaccine Technology & Engineering), Automation, and Quality approvers.
•Manages the investigations to meet key timing commitments, with well-investigated and well-documented deviation reports.
•Works with the Technology, Automation, and Quality Approvers to determine the breadth and scope of the investigation to identify the appropriate root cause, implement corrective actions, complete trending analysis, and determine product disposition.
•Leads facility and utility improvement projects, productivity initiatives, change requests, implementation of corrective actions, and execution of investigational test protocols, as required.

Qualifications

Education Minimum Requirement:

Bachelor's degree in Electrical or Mechanical engineering or related field of study.

Required Experience and Skills:

•At least 5 years of experience in design, engineering, or construction management with experience in Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC), facility and utility equipment design including pumps, chillers, piping, WFI loops, clean steam generators, vapor compression stills, programmable logic controllers (PLC), humidifiers/dehumidifiers, Variable Frequency Drive (VFD) controllers and monitors and Building Maintenance Systems (BMS).
•Applicable Theoretical Knowledge of the Utility Processes and Systems
•In-depth Knowledge of Computerized Maintenance Management Systems and Maintenance Work Management Processes.
•Proficiency in the use and knowledge of PCs (Hardware & Software) including: Project Management, Word Processing, Spreadsheet Applications and Microsoft Windows platform
•Must be able to read electrical prints, P&ID's, and understand P&ID control loops.

Preferred Experience and Skills:

•BAS, HVAC and instrumentation troubleshooting skills.
•Working Knowledge of Environmental, Safety Standards and Guidelines, GMP's, Governmental Regulations, Industry and Engineering Standards
•Operational Knowledge of Production and Production Related Equipment
•Operational Knowledge of Preventive Maintenance and Calibration Control Systems
