Salary:  £23,879 to £28,452 plus on call allowance of approx. 10%

We are offering an exciting opportunity for a Service Operations Centre Technician to join our busy Data Centre team. The team are responsible for maintaining and supporting the underpinning data centre infrastructure 24x7x365 to enable successful IT service delivery to the University’s community of over 35,000 staff and students. 

This role is a great opportunity for an enthusiastic Service Operations Centre Technician who wants to learn and progress within the field.

You will be providing the support that enables iSolutions to deliver a comprehensive range of ICT services to students and staff across the University, all within an ITIL based service management framework.

The team are responsible for implementing and supporting server, storage, networking and other hardware commonly found in data centres.

The person we are seeking will have:

  • The ability to take ownership of support incidents and use troubleshooting skills to see them through to resolution.
  • Experience of computer hardware and basic networking.
  • A clear analytical and methodical approach to problem solving.
  • Demonstrable experience of working in a reactive environment and under pressure.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • A willingness to learn new skills and technologies.
  • Clean driving license for travel between off campus locations.

To be successful, you will need to demonstrate strong organisational skills and excellent communications skills together with the ability to work as part of a team. Fault diagnosis and troubleshooting skills are essential as is the ability to plan and prioritise work to ensure that the data centre operations best support the wider IT service delivery of the department.

Location:This post will be split between our Highfield Campus and Segensworth Facility with a requirement to provide support at other University sites in Southampton and surrounding areas when necessary.  As part of the on call duties you must have the ability to travel to the Highfield Campus and Segensworth Facility within 1 hour.
