Learning outcome development and analytics for Synote e-learning system

Applications are invited for a Research Fellow to work on a research project to develop a new model based on Synote e-learning system to evaluate learning outcomes from different group of learners. Synote transforms learning for all students, including those with disabilities. Synote makes multimedia resources such as video and audio easier to access, search, manage, and exploit. Learners, teachers and other users can create notes, bookmarks, tags, links, images and text captions synchronised to any part of a lecture recording. The main tasks for the applicants are research on the learning models developed in Synote and test the new approaches under real e-learning environment. The applications are also expected to organise research workshops and present the research results with universities and industrial partners in UK and China.

You should possess a PhD* or equivalent qualifications or experience in Computer Science or related discipline and have established a strong pedigree in learning outcome analytics with e-learning tools. Understanding of teaching and learning in computer science and related topics are highly welcomed. Since the project requires communication to universities in China, native Mandarin speaker is preferred.

The successful candidate will be based in the Web and Internet Science (WAIS) Research Group (www.wais.ecs.soton.ac.uk), which undertakes interdisciplinary research focusing on the science and technology of the Web and Internet.  WAIS is one of six research groups within Electronics and Computer Science (ECS) at the University of Southampton.  ECS is the UK’s leading academic unit integrating computer science, electronics, and electrical engineering.

*Applications for Research Fellow positions will be considered from candidates who are working towards or nearing completion of a relevant PhD qualification.  The title of Research Fellow will be applied upon successful completion of the PhD.  Prior to the qualification being awarded the title of Senior Research Assistant will be given.
