Job Details
The post offer the opportunity for the successful candidate to expand their experience in animal technology whilst working within both conventional and barrier facilities and with a range of species (including rodents and aquatic species). The successful candidate must be able to undertake responsibility for the welfare of the animals in their care and to promote and contribute to the strong culture of care expected from all users working with animals at the University of Bristol.You will be an experienced animal technician with IAT Level 3 or equivalent experience.
You will have extensive experience of working with research animal species, particularly rodents and maybe fish, covering their husbandry, welfare and typical research uses
You will be competent in these aspects, and confident to train more junior technicians. Promoting the 3Rs and a culture of care will be important to you.
You will have good verbal and written communication skills and be comfortable communicating with more senior staff (such as the unit manager, Named Veterinary Surgeon, researchers).
Weekend and Bank Holiday working will be required on a rota basis. You may be expected to work in any of the University of Bristol animal facilities and deliver items between them.
You may hold a Home Office personal licence, or be capable of applying for one with minimal further training.
