The NWU has campuses in Mafikeng, Potchefstroom and the Vaal Triangle. The head office, known as the Institutional Office, is in Potchefstroom.

The Potchefstroom Campus of the NWU currently has the following vacancy available :

POSITION : Lecturer/Senior Lecturer (PC07447)
SCHOOL : Physiology, Nutrition and Consumer Sciences
FACULTY : Health Sciences

Minimum Requirements...
  • A Master’s degree in Consumer Sciences (Lecturer)
  • A PhD Degree in Consumer Sciences(Senior Lecturer)
  • Proof related to lecturing fashion or fashion retail management in history and practice (3 – 5 years)
  • Proven sound practical experience and/or service delivery in fashion retail management within the field of consumer sciences (3 -5 years)
  • A demonstrated (proof of dates and activities) commitment to teaching and learning, including a willingness to engage with student’s educational development and welfare (3 -5 years). 
  • The desire to continue to learn and improve as an effective academic. Evidence to be included in CV
  • A letter indicating a high level of professional and ethical conduct from any recent employer or referee

Other competency requirements

  • Knowledge in the field of Consumer Sciences (Fashion or Fashion Retail Management) with specific emphasis on fashion trend forecasting, fashion product development, fashion retail environment, planning and control of stock buying, fashion marketing aspects and social psychological aspects of clothing, international and pertaining to South Africa
  • Strong personal qualities and collegial approaches that contribute to the development and maintenance of a positive academic environment
  • Knowledge in the field of Consumer Sciences related research (basic on undergraduate level for Lecturer) and (advanced, post graduate level for Senior Lecturer)
  • Good practical skills and knowledge with specific emphasis on clothing construction and processes, pattern development and quality control in the fashion industry
  • Good problem solving skills with regard to the key performance areas
  • Demonstrated high standard of interpersonal and communication skills including the ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a multi-disciplinary environment. Give recent examples of such cases in CV
  • Have excellent people skills and conflict resolution
  • Can apply time management and work independently(on their own and without supervision)
  • Must be able to work well in a group
  • Computer profiency with  Microsoft Word and Excel as well as email and internet
  • Demonstration of language proficiency in order to function optimally in the various multilingual environments of the NWU

  • A track record of research activity, including refereed publication; external grants; and number of postgraduate students delivered
