The Design, Trials and Statistics section, in the School of Health and Related Research is now seeking to recruit a Research Associate in Statistics who has a passion for statistics (and applied research) and a willingness to share their passion, enthusiasm and knowledge with others. You will have a good working knowledge of applied statistics and basic statistical theory, with the ability to learn and develop new skills. You will exhibit a “can do” attitude to new activities, knowing your strengths and having the ability to work flexibly and adapt to change. You will need good honours degree in a relevant subject (e.g. Mathematics or Statistics); have an MSc in a relevant discipline; and a PhD (or be near completion) in statistics or equivalent experience. Expertise in statistical procedures/programming including familiarity with at least one statistical software package e.g. SAS, SPSS, Stata or R is also essential.

Your excellent communication and presentational skills will enable you to put across complex and technical ideas to a non-statistical/mathematical audience (particularly clinicians and allied health professionals) in an engaging manner. With exceptional interpersonal skills you will relate well to others in the team, establishing good working relationships across teaching and research. You will join an innovative team, of 14 statisticians, providing timely, well-received and high quality statistical input to a variety of research projects, including: the design, analysis, and reporting of randomised trials, feasibility and observational studies. You will also be expected to be involved in other activities including: teaching statistics in tutorials for undergraduate and postgraduate students and attending internal and external meetings. This post is full-time and fixed-term for 18 months.
