The Division of Research and Innovation is responsible for the University's research-related strategic planning and policy, coordination of investment in research initiatives, and development and support of research alliances and partnerships.

Research Services within the division, supports the University's research endeavours and performance by providing services to the research community. Services relate to advising on research policies, providing oversight of the Excellence for Research in Australia (ERA) data collection, applying for competitive research grants and fellowships, and supporting research compliance and regulatory activities including ethics, gene technology and quarantine matters.

Research & Business Partnerships (RBP) is part of the Research Services Branch.  RBP manages organisation wide business engagement and partnering and provides business services that facilitate the development and management of contract research and consulting.  RBP's mission is to match client needs and business opportunities with the resources and expertise of the University, enabling clients to grow, expanding the research base of the University and translating research into benefits for society.

Working under limited direction, the Business Support Specialist provides business and partnership development support through technology and market analysis, due diligence assessments, contract development and contract management.  This role contributes to the development of strategic plans that include External Sector Strategic Plans, Sector Market Plans, Key Account Plans and Strategic Partnership Plans.

The Business Support Specialist is a critical support role within the Research & Business Partnerships Team with a reporting line to the RBP Director.

Salary: (HEO7) $80,684 - $90,516 per annum.

Superannuation: An employer contribution of 17% may apply.

Term of position: This continuing position is available immediately.

Position requirements

To be successful you should have:

  • Demonstrated experience in technology market analysis, business planning or business case development.
  • An ability to understand complex concepts and technologies and assess their market potential.
  • An ability to work with researchers to understand the functional benefits of new technologies
  • A customer centric mindset and the ability to build relationships for long term collaboration
  • Demonstrated information gathering, information analysis and business reporting skills
  • An ability to conduct opportunity analysis interviews with researchers and clients
  • Demonstrated ability to deal with confidential and sensitive matters
  • Established networks and links with industry, research bodies, government authorities and associations and an understanding of service culture and key account management principles is desirable
