    The Office of the Deputy Vice-Chancellor and Vice-President (Research) is responsible for the University's research-related strategic planning and policy, coordination of investment in research initiatives, and development and support of research alliances and partnerships.

    The Institute for Photonics and Advanced Sensing (IPAS) fosters excellence in research in physics, materials science, chemistry, biology and medicine. IPAS works to create new tools that will change the questions scientists can ask, stimulate the creation of new industries and improve productivity in existing industry, as well as create a new profession of trans-disciplinary problem solvers. IPAS has at its core the drive to translate its research into new products to improve society; we are thus working closely with over 50 companies to solve their outstanding challenges as well as to apply our breakthrough research.

    Working under broad direction, the IPAS Senior Project Manager will provide specialised project management for IPAS funded research projects from industry, government, defence and academic customers. The role will be customer facing and provide a critical communications conduit between the clients and the research teams. The IPAS Senior Project Manager will lead the development of masterplans, schedules and milestones for projects so that large research teams have effective resource and expertise planning and are thus able to deliver on projects within budget and on time. The role is principally focused on efficient and effective project management and will work with applied research teams that are funded by industry and defence.

    Salary: (HEO8) $90,770 - $102,116 per annum or (HEO9) $105,900 - $113,458 per annum, commensurate with experience.

    Superannuation: An employer contribution of 9.5% applies.

    Term of position:  This fixed-term contract is available immediately for 2 years.

    Position requirement

    • Proven track record and extensive experience in project and client management.
    • Extensive experience in leading, developing and delivering complex projects.
    • Demonstrated team-working abilities.
    • Demonstrated experience in effectively and successfully partnering with internal and external clients and display a high level of commitment to a strong customer service culture.
    • Excellent interpersonal/negotiation skills enabling effective interaction with stakeholders and partners and the ability to exercise effective problem solving and resolution of issues.
    • Demonstrated high level written and verbal communication skills.
    • Understanding of the higher education environment and its inter-connectedness with business, industry and government.
