Job Details
We are looking for an enthusiastic and highly motivated postdoctoral researcher for this exciting MRC-funded project to develop a strategy for the control of cysticercosis in humans and pigs in Rwanda. You will work as a key member of the research team, supported by project technicians, to investigate the public health importance and potential for control of the pig tapeworm in Rwanda, in collaboration with scientists at the Universities of Leeds and Liverpool, the National University of Rwanda and industrial collaborators.
You will be based at the National University of Rwanda for the majority of the project, where you will carry out research to estimate the burden of disease in humans and pigs due to porcine cysticercosis, and to investigate the economics of cysticercosis control. You will be responsible for carrying out and supervising epidemiological surveys of people and pigs across Rwanda, mapping the value chain of pig production in the country via interview and questionnaire of farmers and other stakeholders, and helping to develop a countrywide control strategy.
You will have a PhD in parasitology, neglected tropical diseases or tropical animal health. You should have extensive field experience and practical skills, either experience of epidemiological surveys of infectious diseases of humans or domestic animals and/or smallholder animal production in tropical countries. It will be advantageous if you have experience in engaging with communities in low or middle income countries.
