PATHOLOGY SECTION

SENIOR LECTURER / ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR (ONE POST)

RESPONSIBILITIES:

The successful candidate will actively participate in the following areas:

  • Undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and experiential training in Veterinary Diagnostic Pathology;
  • Preparing, presenting and reviewing course material;
  • Lectures, seminars and tutorials, evaluation of students, student support and participation in curriculum improvement and development ;
  • Departmental research programmes;
  • Diagnostic and biopsy duties on a rotational basis;
  • Assisting with service rendering activities, including service rendering to developing communities and continuing education programmes;
  • Administrative and management tasks as delegated by the Head of Department.

 

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Senior Lecturer:

  • MMedVet (Path) or an equivalent Veterinary Pathology qualification;
  • Registration as a Specialist Veterinary Pathologist with the SAVC;
  • Appropriate experience and knowledge in Diagnostic Veterinary Pathology;
  • At least five articles in accredited scientific journals as first author or co-author;
  • Candidates without a PhD: Commitment to obtain further postgraduate qualification in reasonable time.


Associate Professor:

  • MMedVet (Path) or an equivalent Veterinary Pathology Qualification;
  • Doctoral degree (PhD);
  • Registered as a Specialist Veterinary Pathologist with the SAVC;
  • Appropriate experience and knowledge in Diagnostic Veterinary Pathology;
  • Significant professional recognition;
  • At least ten articles in accredited scientific journals as first author or co-author.

 

REQUIRED COMPETENCIES (SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND BEHAVIOURAL ATTRIBUTES):

  • Proven knowledge and competence in veterinary clinical work;
  • Research interest appropriate to the position;
  • Appropriate language and communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills;
  • Generic teaching competence including proficiency with presentations, word processing and spreadsheet software.

 

ADDED ADVANTAGES AND PREFERENCES:

  • Lecturing experience in Veterinary Pathology;
  • Employment at an academic institution;
  • At least five years’ pathology experience gained after specialist registration;
  • Recognised research experience and/or an NRF-rating.

The annual remuneration package will be commensurate with the incumbent’s level of appointment, as determined by UP policy guidelines. UP subscribes to the BESTMED medical aid scheme and contributes 50% of the applicable monthly premium.
