The Faculty of Theology at Stellenbosch University is an ecumenical faculty which provides academic training in Christian theology according to different confessional convictions and church traditions.

The Faculty requires innovative and creative strategic and executive leadership with regard to its learning and teaching programmes, research and social impact, and is committed to excellence and equity.

Duties:

  • Responsible for the strategic management as well as guidance of the Faculty of Theology in the areas of teaching and learning, research and social impact;
  • Management of all student, staff and matters related to finance and other resources within the Faculty;
  • Shared responsibility for the management of the University;
  • Taking initiative for and commitment towards marketing, student recruitment and fundraising initiatives within the Faculty;
  • External liaising and the establishment and maintenance of multilevel partnerships with, inter alia, other academic and theological/church institutions and role players (nationally and internationally), the teaching profession, authorities, professional bodies and alumni, in support of the strategic objectives of the Faculty;
  • Promotion of diversity and transformation within the Faculty.

Term of appointment: Five years with the possibility of re-appointment for another term.

Job Requirements:

  • Appointable as professor in one of the discipline groups within the Faculty of Theology (criteria available at: http://www0.sun.ac.za/hr/docs/appointments/AP0045-Guidelines-For-Appointment-And-Promotion-Of-Lecturers.pdf);
  • The ability to provide effective research guidance in a strongly research-focused and postgraduate environment;
  • Demonstrated innovative and dynamic strategic leadership;
  • Management ability at faculty and institutional level;
  • Sound knowledge, insight and vision pertaining to the tertiary education sector
  • Sound interpersonal and liaison skills;
  • Sound communication skills;
  • Promotion of diversity and transformation.


Recommendation:

  • The ability to function effectively in a multilingual and multicultural environment;
  • Relevant experience at tertiary level;
  • Understanding the importance of social impact;
  • Experience with ecumenical stakeholder relations.
