Job Details

Main Purpose: The Data Centre Operator, works as part of the CNS Data Centre Team assisting with the printing process, processing Multiple Choice Questionnaire (MCQ) cards, monitoring the operational environment of the CNS Data Centres, the backup processes, assisting with the installation and removal of Data Centre hardware, assisting with connecting devices; and is required to be on standby on a rotational basis.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Facilitating the Printing process in CNS data centre, ensuring timeous delivery of the print outs, checking print quality and recording the dispatch of the printouts.
  • Process the MCQ (multiple choice questionnaires) timeously and report any problems to the users.
  • Proactively monitor temperature and humidity, the fire suppression system, and follow the standard procedures defined to deal with incidents.
  • Ensure that the data centres are kept in a neat and tidy condition.
  • Ensure the security of the Data Centres, allowing only authorised CNS personel into the data centre and escorting all other CNS approved external service providers.
  • Manage the tapes for the server backups.
  • Assist with the installation and removal of Data Centre hardware.
  • Follow the process to deal with the incidents that occurs in the Data Centre during the standby period.
  • Work overtime when required.
 

Requirements:

  • Qualifications: Matric, A+
  • Experience: 3-5 years in a Data Centre environment
  • Basic Data Centre hardware knowledge (including UPS, HVAC, Fire suppression,) and networking  (including cabling) and server hardware
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
 

Preferences:

  • N+
  • Sound knowledge of ITIL (Information Technology Infrastructure Library)
  • Strong team player, that is able to work independently
