The Faculty of Physical Science and Engineering has a growing Enterprise activity with a significant number of clients throughout the world. It undertakes new software development projects and provides ongoing support for existing deployments via a team of Enterprise software developers. The Faculty wishes to grow this activity and have a role for a Software Developer to be responsible for developing a new stream of software projects supporting initiatives already underway with the Faculty including DevECS, FutureWorlds and Impactech. The role will involve engaging with client organisations to develop a pipeline of potential software oriented projects.

After agreeing development processes (agile or more classical) with the client, the role will lead design and development activity using current web and mobile technologies such JSON, Javascript, SQL and Android and iOS development environments and apply appropriate testing and quality assurance procedures.

The candidate will have practical knowledge of software development including the use of design patterns, understanding of security access control technologies; building workflow services, state interaction models, API design and experience of refactoring of existing code. The candidate will also be able to learn new skills in areas such as developing marketing plans and actions for the new stream of activities in association with the Faculty Enterprise marketing staff.

Electronics and Computer Science holds an Athena Swan Bronze Award, demonstrating our commitment to provide equal opportunities and to advancing the representation of women in STEM subjects: science, technology, engineering and mathematics.  Due consideration will be given to applicants who have taken a career break. The University has a generous maternity policy and onsite childcare facilities; employees are able to participate in the childcare vouchers scheme.  Other benefits include state-of-the-art on-campus sports, arts and culture facilities, a full programme of events and a range of staff discounts.
