UQ Art Museum

The Curatorial Intern will provide curatorial and research assistance to the Associate Director (Curatorial) and the Curator. This includes research, writing acquisition rationales and related texts, preparing and managing correspondence and other tasks associated with UQ Art Museum exhibitions, projects and events. This is a casual position for 44 weeks, commencing in May 2017. The Curatorial Intern is required to commit to working two days per week.The position would ideally suit students who have completed at least two years of an undergraduate degree in art history.

The person

You must be currently undertaking undergraduate or postgraduate studies in art history or museum studies at The University of Queensland. Applicants are required to show demonstrated ability to conduct high-level research and writing.
Knowledge of the use of computer applications in a network environment in a large to medium sized organisation or the demonstrated ability to rapidly acquire such knowledge will also be required. The applicant should have excellent interpersonal skills including the ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of people by telephone, email and in person, and the ability to work independently and as part of a team and meet deadlines. A passion for gaining knowledge and skills relevant to Art Museum practice is essential. Please include a 500 word sample of your art-related writing. This can be published or unpublished (e.g. piece of assessment).

Masterclasses will focus on various aspects of art museum practice in areas such as registration, curatorship, education, public programming and exhibition design.

Potential candidates for these positions may be identified through the Masterclass process, although attendance is not compulsory. More details about the Masterclasses will be made available closer to the time.

Remuneration

This is a casual appointment at HEW Level 1. The remuneration package will be $30.80 per hour plus employer superannuation contributions of up to 9.5%
