Queensland Alliance for Agriculture and Food Innovation

The Queensland Alliance for Agriculture and Food Innovation (QAAFI) is a unique research institute in Australia – a jointly funded initiative of UQ and Agri-Science Queensland and Biosecurity Queensland, part of the Department of Agriculture and Fisheries (DAF). QAAFI conducts research and development to benefit the food and fibre sector both nationally and internationally.

The Institute's strengths are reflected in its three research centres – the Centre for Plant Science, the Centre for Animal Scienceand the Centre for Nutrition and Food Sciences.  QAAFI brings together scientists from UQ and DAF to conduct high-end science that delivers higher impact outcomes for industry and the community.

QAAFI offers postgraduate programs in the disciplines of Plant, Animal and Food sciences internally and externally and provides professional training to both Australian and international students.

The role

The primary role of this position will be to conduct glasshouse and lab experiments at St Lucia, forming part of the QAAFI wheat and barley pre-breeding team. The role will also assist with planning field experiments and capturing data at sites in southern Queensland.

The person

Applicants should possess an undergraduate degree in agricultural science or related field or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training. You should have a sound knowledge and understanding of conducting field trials for cereal grains and the ability to recognise any plant disease or disorders with expierence in post-harvest grain quality testing. You will need to possess good general research skills, be able to work autonomously to meet deadlines and have excellent interpersonal skills. A manual drivers license for motor vehicle is a must.

Remuneration

This is a part time (50%), fixed term appointment for 2 years at HEW 5. The remuneration package will be in the range $32,298 - $36,174 pro rata p.a., plus employer superannuation contributions of up to 9.5% (total package will be in the range $35,367 - $39,611 pro rata p.a.).
