Systems Administrator Open Ended Grade J Role Advert, Systems and Operations

This post is responsible for supporting and maintaining the University’s Windows-based core server infrastructure.

You should be energetic and enthusiastic about working in a demanding and constantly changing environment where you will be expected to develop your skills with the minimum of external input. You will be able to learn quickly and adapt to rapid change as a natural part of your everyday work.

You will have extensive knowledge and experience of working on an enterprise scale with many levels of complexity across multiple sites in topics including, but not limited to, Windows Server 2008 and 2012 operating systems, System Center, iSCSI storage, Hyper-V virtualisation, large-scale filestores, monitoring, remote administration, scripting and automation. The post will involve the support, management and deployment of both physical and virtual services. Your skills will enable you to troubleshoot issues and restore services to health, working from first principles.

You will have knowledge and experience of the following processes: Incident Management, Change Management, Problem Management and Configuration Management.

Strong interpersonal and communication skills are essential as you deliver excellent customer service to staff and students, in line with organisational strategic goals.

Suitable applicants must have a degree relevant to IT Services or vocational experience which demonstrates equivalent professional development. ITILv3 Foundation Diploma is desirable, as is an understanding of Prince2 methodology.
